My name is C. Heyward Gignilliat (pronounced Gin-il-lat). I am a teacher, learner, and lover of stuff.
I was born and raised in Gainesville, GA. I graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA) with a bachelor’s degree in History and a minor in Political Science.
In 2000, I moved to Japan to teach English as a Second Language. I worked as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Japanese public elementary and junior high schools. While in Japan, I also founded an English conversation school.
In 2006, I returned to the US and attended The School for International Training (SIT) in Brattleboro, VT. I received Master of Arts in Teaching in TESOL in 2007.
I was an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University’s English Language Center until I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008. I served as an Academic Director at Advance English Academy, where I implemented student-centered workshops.
In 2010, I became a faculty member at the Academy of Art University. I currently teach English for Art Purposes and serve as an ESL Support Instructor inside art & design classes.
I enjoy listening to music, volunteering everywhere I can, learning the guitar, attending Burning Man, and generally just goofing off.
