Learning Guitar: 1min Changes at 72bpm

I started teaching myself how to play the guitar about a month ago. I’ve been using JustinGuitar.Com and going through the first stages of his beginner’s course. I want to share my process of learning guitar because I’d like to connect with other people who are learning too.

It took me about two weeks just to be able to hold the strings and form the chords. My fingers were killing me! Now, I have some callused fingers, so it doesn’t hurt nearly as bad.

I’ve spent the past mont practicing my changes between chords. I’ve been setting a 60sec timer on my phone, and I count how many changes I can get in that one minute.

More recently, I’ve been using a metronome to help me practice my rhythm with my right hand. I think it’s helping me keep time as I focus most of my attention on changing chords with my left.

Please let me know in the comments if you have any tips, tricks, or pointers to help through the beginning stages. I’d love to hear some feedback.
